INFANT MORTALITY DOUBLES IN CUBA AMID US EMBARGO, ENERGY BLOCKADE

The United States’ decades-old economic embargo on Cuba and energy blockade imposed since earlier this year, are being blamed for a worsening humanitarian crisis in Cuba. Cuba’s Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Sergio Martinez, tells ABS News that the infant mortality rate has more than doubled over the past two years, as the Caribbean island is starved of crucial supplies. The Cuban diplomat spoke with ABS News on Tuesday, on the eve of a vote in the United Nations General Assembly on a resolution to lift the embargo.
