IMF URGES CONCESSIONAL FINANCING FOR VULNERABLE CARIBBEAN ECONOMIES

The International Monetary Fund says small, vulnerable Caribbean economies should have access to concessional financing and should not be assessed solely on the basis of their per capita income. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva made the remarks during a press conference at the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

Georgieva outlined three key areas Caribbean countries should prioritise to navigate challenges in the global economy while managing their vulnerability to climate-related shocks. These include strengthening regional cooperation, reinforcing economic fundamentals, and leveraging their membership in international multilateral institutions such as the IMF and World Bank.
