DOMDA UNVEILS WORLD DIABETES MONTH ACTIVITIES FOR NOVEMBER

Roseau, Dominica: The Dominica Diabetes Association (DOMDA) has announced a series of activities for November in observance of World Diabetes Month, with a programme focused on public awareness, prevention and community engagement. World Diabetes Month is being observed under the theme “Early action on diabetes.” The schedule, released today, November 01 2026, includes a national feature address, a special church service, parent-teacher association (PTA) meetings and a community Glow Walk. The month’s activities are expected to begin on November 02 with a press release featuring an address to the nation, acknowledging World Diabetes Awareness Month. DOMDA will also mark World Diabetes Day on November 14 with a special service at the Roseau Seventh-day Adventist Church, beginning at 10:30 a.m. People living with diabetes, their relatives, and caregivers have been

invited to attend. The Association is placing emphasis on faith-based outreach, noting that churches can help deliver health information to congregations and encourage conversations about diabetes within families. DOMDA also views the service as an opportunity to connect personal health management with spiritual stewardship, encouraging people to pay attention to nutrition, early testing and other aspects

of diabetes care. Education outreach will continue through a series of PTA engagements. A special online PTA session involving Barbados and Dominica is scheduled for November 23, in collaboration with the Health and Education Departments of the East Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Portsmouth Secondary School is slated to host a special PTA on November 24, while Bense Primary School is scheduled to hold its session on November 30. The PTA programme will address diabetes risks among children and young people,

including the importance of recognising warning signs, encouraging healthy eating and increasing physical activity. DOMDA is also urging parents and schools to promote nutritious lunch choices, reduce sugary drinks and unhealthy snacks, and ensure that teachers understand how to support students living with Type 1 diabetes. The Association’s outline highlights the need for early awareness and appropriate school-based support. The month’s activities are expected to culminate with a Glow Walk on November 27, organised in collaboration with the Lions Club. Through the planned initiatives, DOMDA aims to strengthen public understanding of diabetes and encourage individuals, families, schools and community organisations to take an active role in prevention, awareness and support for those living with the condition.
