SKN SCHOOLS SHOW SOLIDARITY ON PINK MUFTI DAY

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: Students in public and private schools in St. Kitts wore pink on Friday, October 23, 2026, in support of Reach for Recovery SKB Inc.’s Pink Mufti Day initiative, held in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The island-wide fundraising initiative invited primary and high school students to wear pink shirts to school in exchange for a contribution of EC$1.00 per student. The activity aimed to raise awareness of breast cancer among young people while encouraging a spirit of compassion, solidarity and community involvement in support of individuals and families affected by the disease. Among the participating institutions were Epworth Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School, Seventh Day Adventist Primary School and Immaculate Conception Catholic School, where students proudly wore pink in support of the cause. President of Reach for Recovery SKB Inc., Patricia Farrell, expressed her pleasure at the participation of schools across the island, highlighting the importance of introducing young people to breast cancer awareness and encouraging them to become advocates for health education and community support. “We are extremely pleased to see our schools embracing this initiative and standing in solidarity with persons affected by breast cancer. The participation of our children is especially meaningful because it reminds us that awareness, compassion and support are values that can be nurtured from a young age. By wearing pink, our students have helped to spread an important message throughout our communities and have demonstrated that even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. We hope this initiative will continue to grow across the island, inspiring greater awareness and support for breast cancer patients, survivors and their families.” The Pink Mufti Day initiative underscored the important role educational institutions can play in promoting health awareness, empathy and social responsibility. Through their participation, students helped reinforce the message that breast cancer awareness and support are responsibilities that can be shared by the entire community. Reach for Recovery SKB Inc. provides support to individuals affected by breast cancer through assistance with mammograms, specialized medical tests, urgent needs and breast prostheses. During the first half of 2026, the organization provided more than EC$9,000 in assistance for mammograms, specialized tests and other urgent needs, while also subsidising breast prostheses. The organization also operates The Pink Zone, a wellness lounge and safe support space for persons affected by breast cancer. With specialized cancer treatment beginning at approximately EC$8,000, continued fundraising and community support remain essential to helping Reach for Recovery extend its assistance to more patients, survivors and families. Reach for Recovery SKB Inc. extends its sincere appreciation to the participating schools, students, teachers, parents and administrators for supporting the initiative and helping to advance its mission of celebrating survivors, remembering loved ones who have passed and raising funds for vital support programs.
